West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin has named Carte Goodwin to the Robert Byrd Senate seat. Goodwin will temprorarily fill the seat until a special election in November. The winner of the special election will fill the remainder of the Senate seat. Manchin has indicated that he is interested in running in the special election. West Virginia is likely to be a hotly contested Senate race with Republicans trying to pick up another seat.
