Former Republican Senator Arlen Specter –

Former Republican Senator Arlen Specter passed away on Sunday at the age of 82.  Arlen Specter served 30 years in the United States Senate.  Republican Senator Specter won elected office in 1980 by defeating Democrat Pete Flaherty.  The Senate seat was previously held by Republican Richard Schweiker.    Specter had lost statewide bids for Senate in 1976 and Governor in 1978.
